Privacy Policy

Swiss Army Tabs helps you back up, restore, search, and organize your own browser tabs and browsing activity. It is built to keep your data on your own devices and in your own iCloud. This policy covers both Swiss Army Tabs for Mac and the free Swiss Army Tabs for iPhone companion app. It explains what is stored, the limited cases where information is sent to a service to power a feature, and the controls you have.

What stays on your Mac

Your tab backups, your browsing archive (page addresses, page titles, and visit dates), your favorites, and your saved Spaces are stored locally on your Mac. Swiss Army Tabs does not require an account and does not upload your browsing archive.

You choose which browsers

You decide which of Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox Swiss Army Tabs works with — it need not be all of them. The app acts only on the browsers you select; any browser you leave off is left alone. You can change the selection at any time in Settings.

Private and incognito windows

On Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, incognito and private windows are never captured — this is automatic and needs no setup. Safari is handled through the Safari extension; enabling that extension is what keeps your Safari Private windows out of the archive.

AI features (Deep Search)

Deep Search is optional and runs only when you start it. To generate results, a limited amount of information is sent to a third-party AI service:

• Recreate your activity (Activity): a sample of page addresses, page titles, and visit dates — on the order of a couple hundred records — together with the question you typed. Full webpage contents are not sent.
• Import a web search (Web): the search query you type is sent so a web search can be performed and summarized.
• Scheduled searches: these run on a schedule you set. Activity-type schedules use the same page-address/title/date sample described above; Web-type schedules use the query you saved. Web and scheduled searches may run on our server so they can complete even when your Mac is closed.

The information is sent solely to produce your results and the follow-up answers you ask for. The app does not need to read full page contents to provide these features.

Swiss Army Tabs for iPhone

Swiss Army Tabs for iPhone is a free companion to the Mac app. As with the Mac app, no account is required, you are not tracked or shown ads, and your data is not sold. The points below cover what is specific to the iPhone app.

• Syncing uses your own iCloud. Tabs sent between your iPhone and Mac, your Mac favorites shown on the phone, and — if you enable it — your iPhone Safari activity travel through your own private iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit). This data lives in your personal iCloud; Swiss Army Tabs does not host it and cannot read it. Both devices must be signed into the same iCloud account.
• Your Safari tabs stay on your device. The Safari extension reads the tabs open in Safari on your iPhone so you can search, navigate, close, and send them. This happens on your device; a tab leaves the phone only when you choose to send it to your Mac.
• Optional iPhone activity capture. You can optionally let the app record your iPhone Safari activity (page addresses, page titles, and visit dates) so your Mac’s search can include what you viewed on your phone. It is off until you turn it on, syncs only through your own iCloud, and can be turned off at any time. Full webpage contents are never recorded, and Private Browsing is not captured.
• Searching your Mac from your phone. When you search your Mac by keyword, history, or AI from your iPhone, your Mac performs the search. AI searches use the same third-party AI service described under “AI features” above — a limited sample of page addresses, titles, and dates together with your question — and never send full page contents.

Site icons (favicons)

To display the small icon next to a site, the app may request that icon from DuckDuckGo's anonymous favicon service using only the site's domain name. No browsing history, page titles, or page contents are sent for this, and the service is designed not to track you.

Searches, credits, and purchases

AI searches use a credit system. You start with a number of free searches; additional searches are available as in-app purchases handled entirely by Apple. Swiss Army Tabs does not see or store your payment details.

To keep track of how many credits you have and have used, the app stores a random, anonymous identifier (a generated code, not tied to your name, email, or Apple ID) and uses it to check and update your balance on a server. This balance record contains credit counts only — not your browsing data.

Email (scheduled search results)

If you set up scheduled searches that are delivered by email, you provide an email address, and the results are sent to that address through an email delivery service. You can change or remove a schedule at any time.

No ads, no tracking, no data sales

Swiss Army Tabs does not show advertisements, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell your data.

Your controls

• Choose which browsers the app works with, and change it whenever you like.
• Pause capture when you don't want activity recorded.
• Delete your backups and archived activity.
• Private and incognito windows are excluded as described above.
• Use the AI features only when you choose to; they never run on their own except for schedules you set up yourself.

Children

Swiss Army Tabs is a productivity tool intended for general audiences and is not directed to children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
